National project team meeting
The ENEMLOS project team from the Faculty of Law of the University of Montenegro hosted other representatives of non-academic partners at the national level at the Faculty of Law, on February 17, 2022. The meeting was led by the project coordinator prof. dr. Biljana Đuričin, and on behalf of the Bar Chamber of Montenegro was attended by Director dr. Nina Radulović.
The meeting focused on the upcoming activities, and above all on the upcoming start of legal clinics at the Faculty of Law, which will provide free legal assistance to clients from the so-called vulnerable groups and enable students to gain valuable experience through practice. Representatives of non-academic partners were introduced to the planned organization of legal clinics in terms of selection and engagement of students, and participation of academic and non-academic mentors, as well as of how to work with clients, plans to promote legal clinics and other related issues.
The Faculty of Law presented a selected model of work that will be applied following the practice of the University of Zagreb Law Clinic, i.e. in principle it will be giving written legal advice to vulnerable groups by students under the mentorship of professors and professionals from the non-academic sector. Participants were informed that the announcement for the selection of students for work in legal clinics is open until February 20, 2022.
Opinions were exchanged and a number of activities were discussed at the suggestion of non-academic partners in order to increase the visibility of legal clinics, such as visits of students engaged in clinics to the Supreme Court as one of the project partners, which will further promote legal clinics. Also, the proposal on cooperation with the non-governmental sector was discussed in order to improve the work of clinics and the possible establishment of an Environmental legal clinic on the proposal of the Bar Chamber that would be providing legal assistance in the field of environmental protection and animal rights. The Chamber of Public Enforcers has offered to redirect a number of inquiries addressed to it towards the legal clinic, in order to complement the work of the clinic with subjects in this area of enforcement and security.
The upcoming visits to academic partners from Poland and the United Kingdom, i.e. the Polish Legal Clinics Foundation and the Regents University in London were also discussed at the meeting. The visits were considered from the point of view of content and logistical elements.
The participants also visited the premises of the legal clinic, the equipment of which has been completed. On that occasion, they were convinced that this is a very comfortable business space for the designated purpose, equipped according to the most modern standards.
