GREEN LEGAL AID INITIATIVE
Bearing in mind the unfortunate events that upset the national public at the beginning of 2021 and attracted the media attention, related to endangering of the environment and animal welfare, the Bar Chamber of Montenegro launched an initiative to upgrade the ENEMLOS project by introducing a legal clinic for Environmental Law that would promote "GREEN LEGAL AID", i.e. legal assistance to the non-governmental sector operating in the field of nature protection and animal welfare.
At the end of February, a survey was conducted within the legal community, i.e. attorneys who will be participating in the ENEMLOS project, and the support was obtained for the proposal to the coordination team of the Faculty of Law of UoM regarding the project upgrade.
Moreover, the Project Manager, dr Nina Radulović, had a number of bilateral consultations and established communication with non-governmental organizations operating in the field of environmental protection, which welcomed the initiative and expressed readiness for cooperation. Cooperation would be realized primarily by forwarding real cases that require legal support to clinical handling. The following non-governmental organizations expressed their readiness for cooperation: The Center for the Protection and Study of Birds, Animal Friends Podgorica, the Montenegrin Society of Ecologists, Hand to Paw and Korina.
Given that ENEMLOS project is previously defined in terms of activities and finances, in order to expand its scope through the activities of the unplanned Environmental Clinic, the initiative with a request for support and consent together with a proposal of activities was forwarded on March 3rd, 2021 to the UoM as coordinator, in hope to find understanding. In case of a positive response from the project coordinator, the possibility of requesting an upgrade of the project to the donor or seeking another way to implement the upgrade is not excluded.
